Die Motorola-CPUs haben standardmässig das Prefix ‘MC’. Das  Prefix ‘XC’ deutet auf einen Entwicklungsstand vor der endgültigen  Freigabe. Mit ‘SC’ markierte Chips sind speziell für einen Kunden  gefertigt. 

       

Die 68000er CPU hat 68000 Transitoren, 32 Bit Daten und Adressregister, 16 Bit Datenbus und 24 Bit Adressbus.

       

HC000 bedeutet HMOS -Version - hiermit ist auch low power (Stromspar) Funktion ermöglicht.

       

HC001 ist eine HMOS-Version mit wählbarem 8 oder 16 Bit Bus

       

EC bedeutet embedded Version.
